very much not so for tumblr tags, which are linked up very easily to each other, but also force the writer to condense their words into snappy brief phrases. i used to be on tumblr in 2012-13 and then didn't use it for a decade and that tagging writing style stuck with me through all of those years

tumblr dialect is deeply influenced by the tagging system on there. while, yes, a tag is about the same length as a tweet used to be before ~2016, tweets didn't used to be easily chained together and even when that functionality was created, they are still very visibly separate posts.

As an Eldritch Tumblrite, I am fascinated. As a linguist, I disagree.

Bsky could never achieve Tumblr's neo-Dadaist nature because collaborative back and forth posting is seen as invasive and creepy.

Tumblr lacks bsky's fear of contact and not only accepts 'cringe' but actively strives for it.
