For a menu design task, equipping LLMs with optimization tools decreases emissions of food choices by 79% in a hypothetical restaurant while maintaining participantsβ satisfaction. Simpler baselines (vegetarian only, naive prompting) decrease emissions, too, but they also decrease satisfaction.
17.02.2025 18:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Highlights: Food science experts estimated that collaboration with an LLM reduces time spent on a sustainable protein design task by 45%, compared to 22% for collaboration with another expert human food scientist. LLMs generate accurate, specific, and complementary suggestions.

We collaborated with domain experts (food scientists and chefs) to define a typology of food design and prediction tasks.
LLMs can assist in food and menu development, saving food scientists' time and reducing emissions!

17.02.2025 18:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Our new piece in Nature Machine Intelligence: LLMs are replacing human participants, but can they simulate diverse respondents? Surveys use representative sampling for a reason, and our work shows how LLM training prevents accurate simulation of different human identities.
