I remember my grandfather taking me to see Preston North End vs Portsmouth in the early 70s, him in neatly pressed trousers, his best tweed jacket, tie and hat.

The general shape, incl. long, barred tail; the barring on the chest and the well-defined supercilium are all good pointers for sparrowhawk. The colouration indicates an adult female.

I won two of the categories in this competition last year, which was nice, but I was disappointed at the poor quality in the way the photos were displayed at libraries around the region.
