When I take commissions from WOTC and other medium to large corporations, I don't make overtures about how them hiring me - a queer woman of color - uplifts my peers or my causes.

It uplifts ME personally, and that is really cool, but this isn't world saving or transformative in any way.

I saw a comment in this thread - which Grant responded to perfectly - about how we shouldn't criticize this since some of the teachers are POC.

Sure, don't rock POCs for their hustle. But it doesn't change the fact that this does NOT help our industry or marginalized workers as a whole very much.

Be ready to tell people who may be your friends or people you love when they're out of line.

Help marginalized folks defend their spaces. Platform them.

But also: don't presume that one marginalized voice from a specific lived experience or identity represents everyone from that demographic.

Recommend your marginalized peers to job postings, positions, and cool things that you think they'd be great in.

Build your lists. Be ready to direct folks to profiles, portfolios, social media accounts, etcetera.

Check yourself at every turn. Have you enclosed yourself in a white bubble?

What has the potential to be transformative were things like Big Bad Con's Meet & Greet, or the Meet & Greet that occurred at UKGE 2025, or the POC Mentorship Program at GenCon.

"But I don't have the capacity for that stuff!" Maybe so, but you might surprise yourself over the things you CAN do.

If you want to support marginalized creators productively, consider supporting/creating:

+ Mentorship programs
+ Grants and micro-grants
+ Co-ops
+ Short term contractual positions
+ Part-time or full-time positions
+ Accessible spaces for play, dialogue, and design friendly to multiple timezones.

I was 8 on 9/11 and the speed at which I became alienated in my own hometown, at which friends fled the area and the country, and at which I realized that my country suddenly hated me on a visceral level was terrifying. I hope The Beasts we Carry spawns more examinations of that time.

What is the purpose of shooting from a fleeing car? What is the feel you're aiming for? If it's a desperate attempt to keep someone from catching you, then "combative escape" or "fighting retreat" should work fine as a variant of Flee.
