When we took 4-month-old Eleanor to her first doctors appointment we knew we made the right call when the doctors called her name and a 90-year old woman stood in response.

Brother brought the family norovirus for Thanksgiving. Been bouncing around and now my poor 4-month-old has it. So today has been full of snuggles and as much dancing fruit as she wants.

Good prompts and random tables that can push a campaign. Think score tables in BitD or random encounters in new zones for Year Zero games. Not only do they let me, as a GM, jump into a game with zero prep, but it lets the story surprise and delight me as well!

Background and goals, and how it fits with the starting situation and the other characters. Everything else (class, stats, etc) comes from that.

I stepped away from Twitter awhile ago. For all the usual reasons. I followed a lot of people in TTRPGs and missed seeing all their creative endeavors.

Scrolling through my discover feed today, I see so many familiar faces. I feel I’ve stepped back in time and it feels nice, like I’ve come home.

For real we need to bring back stockings for men, Revolution-era style.

Let’s be honest, most mages are skinny old folks. The young ones who go galavanting around shooting fireballs at goblins are the exception. The vast majority are aging, skinny academics. They spend most of their time reading, making notes, working on theses and treatises about magical minutia, or else sitting cross-legged in a protective rune circle for days at a time struggling to control the very forces of creation itself. In a word, sitting down. Wizards build towers so that they can be skinny, aging academics. If they built horizontally, they’d all be fat aging academics, because 90% of their gig is a desk job. The side benefit of towers is that beneath their robes, every wizard has just absolutely jacked calves.

Behold, my greatest contribution to RPG discourse. The question: why do wizards build towers?

I remember when 5e started it was specifically called out that they over did it in the past and they were going to have a very slow release schedule.

I’m partial to The Boundless. Evokes freedom and potential and the open ocean.

I understand that too bleak thing. I love Carolina Death Crawl but can only play it at most once a year because damn.

My local group prefers more laid back games without such dark themes, so sadly I won’t get these to the table.

This is a tough one as my ADHD brain’s hyperfocus bounces from system to system. Currently I’m reading through Brinkwood, Red Markets, and Spire (I go through themes). For unknowable reasons I’m currently drawn to games of fighting regimes and late stage capitalism.

That game’s on my Christmas list! My local group loves Battle Royale and the like. They’d eat this up.

For reasons unrelated to anything happening in the world right now, I suddenly find myself looking into TTRPGs about fighting oppression, toppling authoritarian regimes, and the evils of late stage capitalism.
