Apparently, Caligula’s plan to appoint his favorite horse Incitatus to the high position of consul is now thought by scholars to have been an elaborate stunt to insult and humiliate senators and other elites. I think I may try to skip the news for a while and watch reruns of “I Claudius” instead.
