Yesterday was our biggest turnout for volunteers. We can’t thank everyone enough for making the trip out and providing their time to help clean out shelters, water, and food bowls, pick up poop, etc.

Nonhuman animals are someone, not something.

The fish, pigs, cows, chickens, and other nonhuman animals whose existence humans have reduced to things to be used for food, clothing, companionship, experiments, transportation, entertainment, etc., are persons, as all human and nonhuman animals are.

By going vegan, you are rejecting violence and actively refusing to partake in the use and violation of the rights of other sentient beings. Once you go vegan, trying to convince others to go vegan, donating to and volunteering at sanctuaries, and adopting are all ways to help nonhuman animals.

While less harm inflicted on an individual is better than more harm, the fundamental wrong isn’t how well we treat nonhuman animals when using them, but that we are using them as objects, which in turn, violates their right not to be the property of others. Go vegan.

When it comes to nonhuman animal use, we believe there is no moral difference between the nonvegan who uses animals for food, clothing, entertainment, etc., and the person who breeds, hoards, neglects, etc., dogs or any other form of animal use.

If you are not vegan and agree that the harm and death inflicted on those dogs is wrong then ask yourself what is the best reason you have for inflicting harm and death onto the animals (cows, fish, chickens, pigs, deer, etc.) you kill, eat, wear, and use.

Recently, a dog hoarding case involving over 250 dogs that was local to us got some traction. The comments and reactions to this reflected both thankfulness that the dogs were saved from that situation and anger that a human could treat nonhumans in such a way.
