27.02.2025 00:05 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Each and every one of us is kin and is testimony to the resilience of our ancestors.
55 million - 90% of Indigenous people - died at the hands of colonisation. Our ancestors survived genocide, the spread of disease, and the Little Ice Age caused by the death of so many people.
Meanwhile, Sapotaweyak First Nation's member and councilor, Surinder Dhillon, is first-generation Sihk. He has status under the Indian Act, while thousands of non-status First Nations & Métis of unrecognized communities are considered non-Indigenous.

Then, they came after Québec Métis; no other Métis defended them.
After a while, they came after Ontario Métis; no other Métis defended them.
Soon, there will be no Métis.
They have thus destroyed all our kinship connections.
The steps to erasure: it started by the government telling us that no Métis were Indigenous; it's progressed to being told we aren't Métis.

Same applies with children of immigrant & Métis couple.
Meanwhile, non-status First Nation couples and Métis born of Métis who trace their l Indigeneity prior to Confederation are considered non-Indigenous.

Money laundering, advancement of political ideologies, and foreign political interference are just some of the reasons to be suspicious.
Don't blame Métis and non-status; blame Indigenous Services Canada.

If Indigenous Peoples become successful, a new enfranchisement criteria reminiscent of 1855, when if a man could read or write, had no debts and "of good character", he, his wife, and children became magically colonized?

Teillet's report requiring the EXclusion of non-status or non-government-issued/approved carded FN, Métis and Inuit screwed it up for everybody.
Consequence of U of Sk report written by lawyer Jean Teillet requiring implementation of stricter policies and processes for verification of Indigenous identity. Universities found the recommendations complicated and very costly. It just made it easier for them to justify getting rid of DEI.

Does anyone know why?
Instead of accusing people of mixed Indigenous ancestry of being "raceshifters" and "pretendians," why aren't birthright organizations working at repatriating their kinfolk?
Why does this have to be led by the colonial government at ISC? Is that really SELF-governance?
Staying warm.
