First, they came after Acadian Métis; no other Métis defended them.
Then, they came after Québec Métis; no other Métis defended them.
After a while, they came after Ontario Métis; no other Métis defended them.
Soon, there will be no Métis.
They have thus destroyed all our kinship connections.

The steps to erasure: it started by the government telling us that no Métis were Indigenous; it's progressed to being told we aren't Métis.

Consequence of U of Sk report written by lawyer Jean Teillet requiring implementation of stricter policies and processes for verification of Indigenous identity. Universities found the recommendations complicated and very costly. It just made it easier for them to justify getting rid of DEI.

Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation was only recognized in 2002 & Miawpukek First Nation was only recognized in 1987. Of all 4 of the Newfoundland First Nations, only Qalipu First Nation members get called out as Pretendians.
