Linocut a badger with me!

A reprint of my ‘Flight’ linocut ready to restock my website shop.
It’s lovely to have the swallows back swirling around and they’ve certainly had the best weather since they returned from their winter holidays a few weeks ago.

‘Part 2 - Adding Hanging Rings to my Copper Foil Paintings’

I use flux to help the solder attach to the copper ring (otherwise the solder would just not stick to it) and then a blob of solder to attach the ring to the top of the already soldered frame.

Squirrelling away on a damp Saturday afternoon 🐿️.

This fine tufty fellow is painted on a piece of Furness Railway paperwork dated 1917. He will be finished and copper foil framed very soon!

Busy old day today copper foil framing and photographing paintings on vintage ephemera! Really pleased with the outcomes and think they look rather nice all thrown together (not literally!) with some old books and stuff.

My newest handcut linoprint of a sky full of soaring swallows. There aren’t many sights more joyful than this and it won’t be long before they’re back ☀️.

I have to say that the 300gsm paper INCREDIBLE! It was a dream to print on and feels so luxurious when being handled.

‘Great Horned Owl’ on Pantone 5555

Loved painting this handsome guy 🦉 today ☀️. Painting in the sun does present its challenges but this lovely olivey green was a really great colour on which to build layers and tones.

This little nuthatch was only meant to be a little tester to get my eye back in to making collographs but it came out really nicely as I was adjusting my press to get the right pressure.

For one reason or another, I haven’t been able to do collagraphs for ages (moving house, no printing press etc.) This really is my happy place, focusing on surface texture, getting that lovely architectural rustic feel and seeing what effects I can make to achieve the outcome I want.

‘Mouse No 2’ is painted on one of my classic British Railways wagon labels, this one with a Sheffield theme depicting Meadow Hall (before it became Meadowhall!)

Two little mice, probably up to no good, on vintage ephemera.

‘Map Mouse’ aka ‘Alfred Wainwright’ is climbing up a lovely old OS Lake District North East Sheet; the slightly waxy surface made this one a little tricky to take paint but once I got going, it became a fabulous surface to work on.

Available in the usual places and soon will be available from my live events and shows starting in April 😃 🦡

I chose the colours for this print from the colours of the oak tree, the lovely green lichen found on old branches and the rich yellow from the autumnal oak leaves, oak apples and other lichen.

Just been for a morning walk with Studio Dog and counted an absurd amount of busy wrens fluttering low across the paths and lanes. It’s so nice to see them getting ready for spring and they definitely seem less timid at this time.

🐝 After our trip to Manchester last week, we got to use the trams for the first time. Of course we needed these little beauties to get to and from Deansgate and so I couldn’t resist using them as mini canvasses for some bee paintings! 🐝
