My photo shows a small Proto-Corinthian clay aryballos (perfumed-oil container) in the shape of an owl with a pouring hole in the tail. Height 5 cm, Width 6.4 cm. The owl is perched with its tail to the left and head to the right. It leans slightly forwards with head turned so that its large eyes face the viewer. The owl’s chest is painted black. The eyes and plummage are intricately detailed in black on a yellowy-cream slip. Three rows of feathers in the wing plumage are painted alternately in red and black. Dated c. 640 BC

Northern Vietnam...Tay traditional dress is made from homegrown cotton that is indigo dyed. There is usually little to no embroidery or other decorations. Women wear skirts or trousers, often paired with short shirts underneath and long ones worn on top. Traditional Tay homes are often stilt houses, known as "nha san," built on wooden stilts with roofs made of grass, palm fronds, bamboo, or tiles.

The Tay ethnic group is the second largest minority in Vietnam, primarily residing in the northern regions of the country, particularly in the northeastern provinces. They are known for their rich cultural traditions, including distinctive stilt house architecture and unique agricultural practices, particularly wet rice cultivation.

Tay society is known to be matrilineal, with women playing an important role in the family lineage. The Tay have a rich cultural heritage that includes traditional music, dances, and ceremonies, such as the "Then" ceremony, where a Then Master leads rituals to communicate with spirits for blessings and healing.

One of my absolute favourite Roman sculptures - this protective pig with her piglets. This piece is known as "The Laurentian sow", is dated to the 1-2 centuries A.D. and can be found at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen.
