Oh The Urbanity: "Show me a city with a legally protected mansion district near downtown and I'll show you a city that hasn't really taken the housing crisis seriously."
Halifax:
You are now required to have a cellphone to citizen.
That should not be allowed.
You should not be required to have a cellphone to work.
But many employers make a cellphone a de facto requirement.
Itβs anti-poor. But itβs also anti-democratic.

I'm more than a bit sketched out that there's no reassurance and/or disclaimer about the Obsidian Web Viewer browser's security now that it's a *core* plugin.
That said, it looks and behaves great for general unsecured browsing. I've submitted some suggestions in the Features forums.
It's three in the morning and I'm still thinking about the new Black Diamond resealable package.

25.10.2024 15:39 β π 8010 π 3467 π¬ 347 π 428It's especially annoying because A. A. Milne passed in 1937 -- so his works entered the Canadian public domain in 2007. The US only got it in 2022 (at the same time as the Shepard illustrations).
This is due to their fixed-term-since-publication rules, applied to many materials published pre-1978.
E. H. Shepard died in 1976. While his works are in the public domain in the US, they won't be in Canada for another 23 years.
That's to say nothing of the Hundred Acre Wood map, which attributes Shepard as having only "helpd" Christopher Robin to create it. We'll get that one in the late 2060s.

Dear Mr. Desk,
Please unsubscribe me from your mailing list. I hope you have a chance to get out of the office on this long weekend,

A crow on a cornice casts a covetous consideration upon a crust. This picture is as much a work of art as this descriptive text, which is to say that it falls short. With the black bird silhouetted against an overcast sky and the bleached-out crust set against a dark tree, there is a noticeable contrast. Out of frame, a poet in a Westminster grave turns over.

I've resumed the petsitting circuit as friends go on vacation for the summer. This is Lucy. If you saw my Twitter account before it was purged, she may look familiar.
At 21 years young, Lucy cries for me to come back when I go downstairs to feed Finnegan, her brother.
Obsidian. (Free license for individuals and non-profits.)
It includes the core plugin "Canvas," in which you can link to entire notes. I use it for linking to individual tasks within a larger process flowchart.
Obsidian also supports Mermaid diagrams, if that's your thing.

* How do you reference those files?
* Does S3 handle access from GHP securely so clones don't access your .md files?
* Do you use Actions to rebuild the site automatically or push a commit?

End-to-end encryption on bsky.app makes sense to me, but how will communication between users on independent instances work?
Is this why more protocol work is needed?
And where can I learn more?
For existing file extensions, I think consistency is more important for access than knowing the origin of the letters.
I suspect we're moving away from extensions anyway. They're hidden by default in the common operating systems already, and could soon be fully replaced by non-filename metadata.
This reminds me of the origin of ISO for the "International Organization for Standardization" (as it is in English). Worth checking wiki for that rationale.

03.05.2024 15:59 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Why are my APl calls so high? There are a few reasons why your call count might be higher than you expect: You vote a lot - each vote counts as 1 API call. There is an option in settings -> behaviour -> general to turn off sending votes to reddit. The ui will still reflect the vote cast until you refresh. You post and/or comment a lot and have mail check enabled - in this case Relay will be making periodic calls in the background to check for replies and messages etc. You can reduce your mail-related API calls by disabling Check Mail, Mod Mail, and Mod Queue in Settings -> Mail.
How does upgrading and downgrading subscriptions work? If you run out of calls before the end of the month then Relay will stop loading content. You can either wait until the next billing period begins or upgrade your plan to continue browsing.
Some screenshots from the Relay for Reddit FAQ which may discourage people from participation. (Relay was great and I appreciate the transparency.)
02.04.2024 14:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 01. Are there fewer bots?
Is this a good thing to reduce spam and misinformation agendas, or does it impede useful automation?
2. Are people discouraged from engaging in discourse?
I imagine feeling discouraged from voting/commenting if that uses my monthly allotment API calls.
It's been a year since #Reddit announced fees for API calls to third-party apps. I stopped using it; the first-party UI is awful. Even if third-party app pricing is reasonable, the pay-per-call model itself scared me off.
How has user generated content changed as a result of API fees (if at all)?
That's pretty fun.
Will the lyrics of those other songs fit the melody that's familiar to us, or can I sing London Bridge to those other tunes?
Outlook actually kept getting it wrong when I was looking ahead from last week!
It's working now, but if I jump ahead to when standard time begins again it's off by an hour.
