In den USA wird der Wissenschaftsbetrieb gerade lahmgelegt, u.a. damit begründet, dass man Vertrauen in die Institutionen zurückgewinnen wolle. Eine Mehrheit der Amerikaner glaubt schon lange, dass es ein Lab Leak war. Wie kann man jetzt noch denken, actions don't have consequences?

Drosten beim Coronavirus Update, Juni 2021: "Also letztendlich, wenn die Wissenschafts­community die Fragen stellt, dann werden auch Labore in China auf diese Fragen ant­worten. Aber bitte auf Augenhöhe." Drosten im taz Interview, Januar 2025: "Die Politik sollte nach all den Jahren deut­licher die Forderung an China stellen, jetzt wirklich zu beweisen, dass es aus der Natur kommt."

Echt unglückliches Timing: Als Biden noch Präsident war, wollte Drosten nicht, dass sich die Politik einmischt - das würde die Wissenschaftscommunity schon unter sich klären!

Jetzt, zu Beginn von Trumps zweiter Amtszeit und kurz vor der BTW, sagt er, dass die Politik hier mal was machen solle 😅

Er muss natürlich Rücksicht nehmen auf seine vielenn Fans und es ihnen schonend beibringen, das ist klar.

Drosten Aussagen von Jung & Naiv: "Ich weiß, welche Experimente unter Stufe 2 ge­macht wurden. So ungefähr, wie man das aus der Ferne, aus der Literatur bewerten kann. Da würde ich sagen, hm, wahrscheinlich nicht so gefährlich gewesen, ja?" Drosten Aussagen im taz-Interview: "In der Öffentlichkeit stellt man aber zurecht die Frage, ob chinesische Wissen­schaftler vielleicht dennoch daran gearbeitet haben. Hatten sie bereits die Technologie dafür? Würden sie diese Art der Forschung auch in Eigenregie durchführen? Ich habe das lange bezweifelt. Aber in jüngster Zeit habe ich manchmal ein ungutes Gefühl."

Drosten hat Anfang des Monats noch was von Bremsscheiben erzählt, die 30.000 km halten. Warum hat sich seine Meinung jetzt geändert?

‪Grant Jacobs BioinfoTools/NotJustDNA @notjustdna.bsky.social‬ So, there’s an account dedicated to "defending" drinking r*w m*lk by searching for posts to launch itself at 🙄😞 It’s one thing to have an potentially innocently misguided opinion; it’s a quite different thing to hunt for posts to launch yourself at. ‪ I’ve seen another account doing the same for the 'lab leak' hypothesis for the origin of COVID-19. Some/most of these accounts look to obviously be reply bots. A few are harder to tell.

Anyone else on here using the search function to find posts dismissive of lab leak and then replying with facts?

Table from the Annex of the study showing that 23 (of 74 in total) participating virologists claimed to have read a non-existing study and 9 participating virologists claiming to have read none of the listed documents. Listed studies are Andersen et al., 2020, Worobey et al., 2022, Pekar et al., 2022., the Joint WHO-China report, the DEFUSE grant proposal, the State Department fact sheet stating that 3 WIV workers fell ill in Nov 2019, Liu et al., 2023, and a 'fake' study attributed to Hanlen et al.

Interesting result: A whopping 44% of *expert virologists* who participated in the study declared to have either read a none-existing paper or none of the listed documents at all.

And yet they considered themselves – and were vetted to be – expert enough to participate. Ouch!
