So sorry to hear that Dr Kat. I find it hard to imagine what it will be like when my parents go. Sorting papers is taxing enough as it is, but also a really intimate thing to do. Hugs

Wow, searching for a toilet sounds very stressful. I think the rest of us wouldnt mind if public bathrooms were all designed the same. Did you see that thread about the many kinds of non ideal ways to design a bathroom faucet?

Oh that makes perfect sense!

I loved your story. It can be hard to make insecurity really compelling in writing, but you did it! The Revision felt as compelling as a snazzy new technology

Love how they randomly put fromage on there. As if French people might not be sure it was cheese

What do you do when you have so much research for your WIP that it would take weeks to explain but all your plot ideas feel like dried leaves?

That is hilarious. Maybe the editor involuntarily says blorb now

Even back to medieval times peasants would evade the army, the tax man and slavery by finding land that was inhospitable to anyone coming after them, and social strategies to deter wannabe kings. So even as a Bahai who hopes for a just world government one day, i find them kind of interesting

I believe governments are necessary, but in these interesting times i wonder what anarchists have learned about what people can do themselves when the gov wont do it. The only anarchist book ive read is The Art of Not Being Governed about se asia’s long history of ppl running for the hills…

Do you find that your indigenous traditions impart a sense of scale to our place in the universe that feels closer to modern scientific understanding? I think of how prehistoric animals in australia and north america have words in living languages, like the Abenaki word for mammoth.

I really enjoyed Black Water Sister. Low fantasy, vivid visual scenes, well choreographed action sequences, lighter family oriented conflict.

This is also a case for me where the originality makes me not mind it. It was such a welcome change to have these emotions of missed connection, regret and sadness and loneliness brought to the postapocalyptic genre. But the book also feels optimistic and tender

EVERYBODY THINKS THEY LOOK A BIT LIKE JAMES BOND! (Bug Club song, my favorite bit of bond media ever)

There is a novel i read a page of at a friends house that i might NEVER find again, in which a woman is undercover as a sort of Bond seductress and she feels the stress of having to act like nothing’s wrong though she might be given away and no one can tell a damn thing

Fair warning, the first book is slow and the main character is kind of passive. But she grows out of it and maroons has more action. But i say this to underscore how good the first book is anyway! Just very heartfelt and poignant and all the dread but not disgusting or scary.

I feel kind of stressed about caring for something that communicates so subtly, but it also sounds cool. My cat just jabs the back of my leg with one claw when im feeding the humans before him

I really enjoyed Grievers by adrienne marie brown. Its riffing off zombies but instead people all over Detroit are just frozen with…sadness. Its very understated and very emotional at the same time. The sequel Maroons is good too.

Lizzy the cat is too proud to go to the vet and is prejudiced against him on account of his terrible bedside manner.

So, I think it's time I begin, in detailed specifics, talking about the mess that is Unbound / Boundless as a book publisher, in essence stealing most of a years royalties from me and many other authors, as a result of poor financial decisions, and legal BS.

Please read and share this thread.

There is no accountability for lying and grifting, ppl are expected to rely on themselves to figure it out, so that has become a vector of exploitation too. Antivax is an ad for antigovernment politics & alt med quacks. They sell your skepticism back to you.
