Land Explorer Land Explorer makes land data open, accessible, and actionable.

Housing organisers can spend hours chasing basic info because the system makes it hard to see the full picture of who owns what.

We’re working with Shared Assets to build practical tools that make organising easier. If you’re campaigning on housing, Land Explorer is totally free to use

In order for people to organise around land, climate, food, housing and local power, vital information can’t be hidden away.

So here at DCC, we're thinking about how we could raise the money to be able to update our data each year. We believe that campaigners and community groups of all sizes should have access to information about their communities, not only well-resourced developers.

It’s far more than we or any single organisation can afford. And yet without this dataset, communities lose one of the only tools that helps them understand who owns what and why certain decisions are made in their communities.

BUT Land Explorer is only as good as the data that fuels it. And right now, keeping the core ownership data up to date costs £20k + VAT per year. That number shocks most people and it should.

There’s a move at the Land Registry to make land data more open.. but there’s still a way to go.

Currently vital data for land justice is behind a huge paywall (>£20k per year).

There should be a license that allows civic access to this data.

2. Colour-coding: The colour-coding in each ownership level has been improved, so it’s way easier to tell them apart.
