Thereβs a move at the Land Registry to make land data more open.. but thereβs still a way to go.
Currently vital data for land justice is behind a huge paywall (>Β£20k per year).
There should be a license that allows civic access to this data.

π± Two NEW features just dropped in Land Explorer π
1. Unregistered land: You can now see all unregistered land in your area.
2. Colour-coding: The colour-coding in each ownership level has been improved, so itβs way easier to tell them apart.

100s of groups use Land Explorer to uncover who owns the land around them & improve their communities.
Community groups & campaigners should not be priced out of this data.

When tech is built and governed collectively, power can shift away from corporations and back toward communities.
In a world where a handful of tech companies hold and control most of the worldβs data, access to information is hugely uneven. Much of it sits behind paywalls or in formats that small organisations canβt use.

Last week the Digital Commons team (minus the wonderful Lynne) met in Birmingham for our away day π±
It gave us a chance to step back and plan whatβs next for our tools and partnerships and to reconnect on what drives our work. π
Who owns land is one of the most opaque & important questions in the UK today.
Communities cannot tackle the housing crises, respond to environmental changes, or protect local green spaces w/o this info.
Thatβs why we built a tool that makes it simple to see who owns what.
