Sunset over Oare Marshes πŸŒ…

Highlights of the SBBOT-led walk β€” plenty of Ringed Plover, Dunlin, Common Gulls and lovely views of a Greenshank.

What an awesome weekend 😁 #GlobalBirdFair

Caught up with old and new friends alike, made plans for a birding trip abroad, watched ospreys on Rutland Water, did surprisingly well for a team of two in the Pub Quiz (Stephen Moss said so 😏)

…and much more!

Watching a displaying osprey, call and all, on Rutland Water was the perfect way to end our first day at Bird Fair. Big thanks to Dr Tim Mackrill and the Osprey Leadership Foundation team πŸ¦…

Bring on the rest of the weekend!

Terrible photo (it was sat on a rotating globe at Paultons Park), but I think this is a pale giant horse fly 🐴 πŸͺ°

Happy to be corrected (I know next to nothing about insects), but Google suggests these are quite uncommon so I’m pretty pleased.

Nature Beyond Cure: Disabled Perspectives Books that explore nature and living with disability and illness from disability perspectives. No magical cures here!

I've made a new list on @bookshop.org of books that explore nature / walking / the outdoors by disabled, neurodivergent and chronically ill writers - Nature Beyond Cure - aka our own narratives are messy and complex. Do share! #BookSky #DisabledWriters

Delighted to see that Hannah's book has been commissioned, after watching it take shape while she was an MA nature writing student. She's a great writer and I'd anticipate it being truly inspirational. @chiffchat.bsky.social @bathspauni.bsky.social

I had a brilliant morning last week in Wiltshire searching for (and successfully seeing!) the magnificent great bustard for the first time.

The Great Bustard Project is well worth a visit. Their work is incredible and underpinned by an inspiring story of conservation determination.

Can anyone tell me what this is? Found in North Brewham, under clay clumps in a shallow stream.

Looks like a face hugger 🫣

Department for Education confirms launch of natural history GCSE Campaigners have been calling for the qualification for years but plan stalled despite a curriculum being drawn up

Brilliant news! At last, confirmation that the Govt *will* go ahead with the #NaturalHistoryGCSE πŸŽ‰ We have to get to know our fellow travellers on this planet again. Young people who know & love nature are far more likely to protect & restore it - as well as enjoying better physical & mental health

It’s not the sexiest sign of spring, but I’ve just been foraging for tortoise food and the weeds have erupted in the past week 🌱🐒

Dandelion and cats ears, mallow, bristly oxtongue, campanula, plantain and more!

Golden sunlight bursts through a tangle of budding trees, casting long beams of light across a mossy woodland floor. New green shoots push up through leaf litter and patches of moss, catching the glow of the morning sun. A soft haze fills the air, with a hint of warmth and life returning to the woods.

It's the Spring Equinox - the first astronomical day of spring! β˜€οΈ

Longer days. Lighter evenings.

Sunshine warm on your skin, birds singing, blossom in the branches.

A pair of goldcrests are flitting outside my window in central Folkestone.

Too tiny for any iPhone photos, of course. But a beautiful and unusual sight whilst working from home!

It’s that time of year when I can shamelessly promote my #Etsy shop 🎨

An A5 print of my original watercolours would make a great gift (if I do say so myself)

Put them in a nice frame or slip them in a card, up to you…
