One of my favorite subplots of a subplot in evangelical Christianity is the ongoing war against kids sports on Sunday mornings - I wouldn't be surprised if republicans propose a ban on them to increase the voter base - the anti-abortion and anti-kids-sports-on-Sundays coalition would be terrifying

Was this the long-game (not very long though actually) with Grants Pass clearing the way to criminalize homelessness?

That would be cool if 1. it was actually going to be used to dismantle discriminatory systems (it won't be) and 2. if scaling AI for these purposes didn't result in the building of data centers in areas where the people AI would theoretically advance mortgage access live. It's all so dumb.

I've yet to find a use of AI that is worth burning the planet down even faster - for instance in housing, its being used to automate mortgage approvals/denials - some housing folks say its worth it because AI could use alternative data to give more people access to mortgages

Food on the Fly in downtown MPLS is GOOD! Can only speak to the vegan food, but its easily the best skyway food I've had and its not particularly close. Tell them I sent you and it won't mean anything or result in any discount.

I think I'm part of the percent of a percent of people who have had good experiences - but I know from literally everyone else I talk to that it's almost universally bad!

Taking what society gives you might make you normal, but it won't do anything towards making you an ethical human.

I'll also plug (for the 0 people who read this far) that you are responsible for being more ethical than what society hands you - On the right and center I see a group that has ceded control of its ethics to a group of evil people who peddle misinformation.

Someone might see the rush to support Ukraine as a no-brainer, but not Palestinians - why? I find my opposition to animal slaughter as an obvious extension of the values that guide my feelings towards oppressed people groups. Obviously most people don't. Why? Different twists in the empathy hose.

Nobody is perfectly consistent in applying values, but when you put kinks in the hose, your ability to pull values through to other people or groups gets twisted. Often, while there's absolutely levels to this, I feel like we're arguing about which twisted version of empathy hose is better/worse.

With food, dogs and cats, and some other random zoo animals - all good and worthy of dignified treatment and compassion. Cows/Pigs/Chicken - totally normal to slaughter in the billions, to use in horrific rodeos, not worth any consideration, literally exist in service of appetites.

As a former deeply conservative Christian and happy meat eater, these mutations happened early. Myself - deserving of full rights with a thick sense of entitlement in the public square. Others - obviously lies from the devil, which means their rights are secondary to mine.

In understanding how our society become totally empathy-less, I go back to the first times people see or are exposed to suffering for it to then be normalized or explained away. When were our moral arguments for valuing equality and dignity first mutated into groups of deserving and undeserving?

Every time I eat Minnesota Nice Cream I think I’m being pranked because of how bad their vegan flavors are. This is my local reporting on the vegan scene for July

After two weeks away to attend my mother’s funeral, I am returning to Minneapolis and to our campaign more determined than ever to fight for a city that cares for all of us. Thank you for giving me the grace and space to step away to tend to my family and my grief.

This overlooked cause of PTSD is only going to get worse What slaughtering animals all day does to your mind.

There's no part of the meat industry that's not exploitative - if you don't care for for the animals sake, how about the humans who do the dirty work? Thank you for your writing, @kennytorrella.bsky.social

I support the calls to turn golf courses into public sex forests - but even a hockey arena would be an improvement on use. Imagine how many pickleball courts you could put on an 18 hole course, or disc golf courses, or just green spaces for humans to enjoy - what a concept.

My back of the napkin math confirmed that this is wildly inaccurate... like wildly inaccurate... closer to the geographic area of Mission Hill for you Boston freaks out there. But my point still stands!

Golf courses are the biggest waste of space in urban America. WTF are we doing when we don't have enough housing, but smack dab in the Twin Cities is enough land used by mostly rich white people to fit the geographic area of Boston.

If your seminary thinks gay people should be abstinent forever than the other things you learned at that seminary might likewise be very very bad.

I think it's true that we've built too much reliance on government funding AND that people are so crunched financially (because of gov't not giving a shit about people) that the prospect of crowdfunding all the things we care about isn't feasible.

I haven't been here that long (since 2021) but its obvious he cares more about the city's wealthy and business leaders than anyone else. He constantly punches left and takes every chance to be petty and avoid responsibility despite having all the power.

Growing up is realizing just how rich your fiends' families were growing up - I just learned the retail price of a Lovesac bean bag... one of my friends had 3 - which apparently meant they were billionaires.
