Yes, I live that lifestyle. But degrowth is not just about personal lifestyles, it is about the entire system of production and consumption, and the fair consumption space for all humans.

That's the green growth myth. Doesn't work. New tech does not guarantee a reduction in resource use because it leads to the rebound effect. With all new tech and efficiency, we've been using more and more resources and energy. That's gotta change and only degrowth can do it.

There is no "real environmental solution" if it does not include the reduction of the levels of production and consumption we have today (aka degrowth).

We cannot make concrete with solar or wind power. We cannot make wind turbines without steel. And we cannot make steel without fossil fuels. Yet.

It’s also about agricultural and industrial processes. About waste. About materials we use to make steel, concrete, fertilizers, plastics (for medical purposes etc).

Keeping the same levels of energy production and consumption is not going to save us from the climate crisis. Moreover, the crisis is not just caused by how we produce and consume energy.

That’s a common misunderstanding about degrowth which is easily overcome once you explain to people what degrowth actually means. All narratives need explanations to avoid misunderstanding, including Riofrancos and McKibben, imho. But degrowth captures precisely what needs to be done asap.

The connotation of deprivation attached to degrowth comes from capitalist propaganda. It should be resisted. Degrowth should be embraced openly, precisely because it is anticapitalist and because it is promoting prosperity.

Degrowth is not “zero consumption”. Do some proper reading before you misrepresent degrowth. Degrowth is a reduction in consumption AND production with a very specific purpose: bring society back within planetary boundaries.

You are confusing degrowth with austerity. Degrowth is the opposite of austerity.

Core countries must also start returning the massive amounts of wealth they appropriated from the periphery.

Fast fashion must end ASAP. Petty producers in the periphery should produce for local needs at fair, non-extractive wages. Next: massive land redistribution and investments in land augmentation for agroecological production.
