Total nostalgia trip this week! This is my take on a classic of close-up magic, the dice change illusion. This is my entry for the Makerworld 3D Printed Magic Trick design contest. 🎩

Closed wet daisies

Hello back. That looks far more amenable than here tbh. Even the daisies didn’t bother getting out of bed this AM.

If you happen to be on Makerworld, this is my design of a Bagnold Solar Compass, and it's my entry into the current Hiking Gadget design contest. I also built an app to go with it to work out the azimuth tables for anywhere and any time on Earth. πŸ€“

Saw this done a few months ago and was completely wowed, was a significant factor in investing in a new 3D printer! This is a CMYK lithophane, printed with 4 filaments.. which then does this when lit from behind. 🀩 @bambulabglobal.bsky.social

Quite likely the most insanely complex model I’ve ever 3D printed. The β€˜revolver’ fidget gears by Graham Watson (@GmanProjects on YT)
One piece print in place, came out perfectly on the #Bambulab P1S 🀩

Amazing work.

The authors identify 10 categories (image below) and then leverage LLMs to map the actual withdraw reason to these categories

Everyone else: We proved that Tetris with larger k-onimo pieces is NP-complete!

Unnamed researcher: I thought my Tetris font was really cool.

Totally agree. Publicly calling out companies on Twitter was often a far more effective way of prompting a swifter response than any helpline!

A story that begins with a corpse on the floor is a mystery. A story that ends with a corpse on the floor is a tragedy. A story that begins with a floor on a corpse is The Wizard of Oz.

A TNG scene. We're in the Enterprise conference room, where Picard is holding a meeting with Data, Troi, and Dr Crusher. Barclay is also there, for unknown reasons. Maybe he wandered into the meeting and just sat down, and everyone was too polite to mention it. That happened to me once. I was visiting an office location I didn't normally go to and I wasn't quite sure which conference room I was supposed to be in. I walked into one and sat down and it took me five minutes to realize I was in the wrong meeting. From the perspective of the people in that room, halfway through that meeting, a stranger walked in, sat next to the boss, took notes for five minutes, then walked out without saying a word.

At its heart, Star Trek is a utopian fantasy about a society so advanced that they are capable of holding productive meetings that last no longer than three minutes
