Yes, I agree. Often the reaction comes without a useful prescription. Ive tried telling my art friends that putting the genie back in the bottle is impossible. "Bannin ai" isnt a pheasible solution.

I think a lot of artists who tend to be overwhelming left and not as knowledgeable about the nitty gritty of tech are just used to decades of worsening conditions and opportunities in the corporate sector. As a result, their reaction to the potential threat is very strong. I can't say I blame them.

So how do we avoid the camps?

I'm not trying to be pessimistic or a doomer. I'm just describing reality as I see it compared to similar countries that have gone through this process. We missed our window to get out of this and democracy is gone and won't be back under the current system.

I don't see any way back from this. They're winning at consolidating all the levers of power under Trump and then using it to bend the culture and media to his will. It's succeeding and no one is putting up enough of a meaningful fight. Current efforts are arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Then it'll be baseless investigations into candidates that threaten Republicans using the weaponized federal government. Spurious allegations of mortgage fraud such as those against NY AG Tish James and Sen. Schiff. This is just getting started and will become the norm like Russia.

Between the redistricting and new census plans, it's clear they are stacking the deck in such a way that Democrats can no longer win control of congress or the presidency. That's not even taking into account the coming attacks on Dem campaign finance infrastructure such as ActBlue.

I know it's unpopular to say but Trump's authoritarian consolidation is succeeding, mostly because of cowardly institutions. We're effectively past the point of no return and life will increasingly become dictated by Trump and the federal government. Democracy is lost for at least a generation.

What can the FBI do in Texas redistricting fight? Not much, experts say. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) has said the FBI granted his request to help bring Democratic lawmakers back to the state. But the bureau appears to have taken few concrete steps.

Sen. John Cornyn said FBI agents had been assigned to help Texas law enforcement track down the more than 50 Democratic lawmakers who left the state amid a messy redistricting fight.
