Part of our constitutional crisis is that Republicans are stopping Congress from playing its fundamental oversight role.

These fascist goons are mobilizing the whole power of the US government to persecute this one man and ruin his life, because he embarrassed them.

We don’t need to back off the American Gestapo and we don’t need to respect its agents. People exercising state violence are not entitled to anonymity. Nor are the people directing the state violence.

A portion of John Quincy Adams' Amistad argument before SCOTUS: "I will not recur to the Declaration of Independence--your Honors have it implanted in your hearts--but one of the grievous charges brought against George III. was, that he had made laws for sending men beyond seas for trial. That was one of the most odious of those acts of tyranny which occasioned the American revolution. The whole of the reasoning is not applicable to this case, but I submit to your Honors that, if the President has the power to do it in the case of Africans, and send them beyond seas for trial, he could do it by the same authority in the case of American citizens. By a simple order to the marshal of the district, he could just as well seize forty citizens of the United States, on the demand of a foreign minister, and send them beyond seas for trial before a foreign court."

One reason Americans have no idea how much their government benefits them is that it never actually shuts down when Congress can’t pass a budget. Thousands of essential personnel keep doing their jobs and not getting paid. No American has really experienced a true government shut down.

I obviously disagree with some of Elez's posts, but I don't think stupid social media activity should ruin a kid's life.
We shouldn't reward journalists who try to destroy people. Ever.
So I say bring him back.

This is called a reframe. The focus is being shifted from the beliefs of the person in question to how they were exposed.

The absolutism make little sense if you think about it - what if a reporter exposes crimes? What’s a β€œbad dude”? The goal is for moral outrage to cloud rational thought.

Draw your own conclusions, but Donald Trump is not behaving like a leader who expects democratic accountability for himself or his party next year or in 2028.

If DeepSeek showing reasoning traces makes OpenAI react to consumer market pressure and show the o1 reasoning traces in ChatGPT it'll be a wonderful, beautiful outcome.

Really subtle, unexpected interaction effect I wasn't expecting being way too deep in AI. We have much to learn in UX.

Some addicts still on the bird site are under the delusion that they're not influenced by the algorithm because they only use the "following feed". This either intentionally or naively ignores that people you follow use the algorithmic feed. So you're still seeing content promoted by the algorithm.

/2 It’s something anyone can do. Caring about whether something is true or not, and calling out lies, defies Trumpism. Treating people as humans even if Trumpists don’t think they are is defiance of Trumpism. Refusing to hate and revile Trumpists’ targets defies Trumpism. You can do that.
