"Completely ignoring the interconnected threats posed by climate change-related impacts and environmental pollution is not just a scientific oversight; it is a public health failure," writes @lisapatel.bsky.social of @docsforclimate.bsky.social and Grace Wickerson of @scientistsorg.bsky.social:

Climate change is the greatest driver of health for a child born today and the “Make America Healthy Again” report fails is big ways and small to direct the nations attention to the biggest upstream drivers that could make children healthier. Read my take with Grace Wickerson on why

PERSPECTIVE: By ignoring climate change as a threat multiplier, MAHA is missing the forest for the trees and will unnecessarily put the lives of millions of children at risk, argue @lisapatel.bsky.social of @docsforclimate.bsky.social and Grace Wickerson of @scientistsorg.bsky.social.

Commonwealth Fund ranks which states are best, worst for health and climate change preparation Regions prone to extreme weather events like heat waves, hurricanes, and severe winter weather scored the worst.

From Healthcare Brew: Dr. @lisapatel.bsky.social of @docsforclimate.bsky.social says health systems must leverage their voice in clean energy policy decisions—"it both affects their operations and it affects the health of their populations."

When I feel sad about who we’ve become as a country, I remember those in power do not represent most of us. Watching Chicagoans stand up for a total stranger being treated inhumanely—I’m reminded that most of us are kind, caring, and decent. And we’ll fight for a kind, decent, caring world.

2. I can't be sure, but I think they gave Lee Zeldin free reign to insert random sentences/phrases about being pro-growth and pro-economy whenever the language veered too far into holding industry to account for the pollution they caused.

Consortium Statement on the Newly Released "Make Our Children Healthy Again" Strategy Report - The Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health (MSCCH) Consortium Executive Director Lisa Patel, MD, speaks out on the newly released strategy report from the Make America Healthy Again Commission.

Reading the #MAHA report—3 things struck me.

Instead of a thoughtful framework from experts in kids’ health, it’s a mishmash of whatever irked RFK Jr. enough to jot down. Worth noting: not a single children’s health expert is listed as an author. Not. One. bit.ly/45Xl82a

"For the administration to pursue a repeal now amid the heartbreak in Asheville, Los Angeles, and Kerrville is to ignore the lived reality of communities and health professionals on the frontlines. Doubling down on the pollution that is driving these disasters is not only reckless and costly—it is also a profound failure of public duty." A quote from Lisa Patel, MD, Executive Director of the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health.

The Consortium is deeply alarmed by the proposed repeal of the endangerment finding, a move that prioritizes the interests of the fossil fuel industry over our health, safety, and economic security.

The administration continues to put industry over our children’s right to clean air, safe water, and a stable climate. @lisapatel.bsky.social says a recent @youthvgov.bsky.social lawsuit against these executive actions is crucial in holding leaders accountable.

"As a pediatrician, it's unconscionable to think that our country would move backwards on something as common sense as protecting children from mercury and our planet from worsening hurricanes, wildfires, floods, and poor air quality driven by climate change." - Lisa Patel, MD

Rolling back protections on mercury and power plant pollution is a moral and public health failure. It endangers children, worsens the climate crisis, and harms communities already overburdened by pollution. Read @lisapatel.bsky.social's statement on these dangerous proposals here: bit.ly/44kyF1V
