17.06.2025 07:14 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Always a pleasure to come across a Golden-fringed Mason Bee (Osmia aurulenta) nest! This is one of 3 UK bee species to nest in empty snail shells. A female had just finished pasting leaf mastic over the entrance to the shell when I came across her yesterday at Porth Neigwl.

A large black bee with a red tail and wings crossed over her back. She is nestled in amongst some camellia leaves.
Thatβs wonderful, Brigit! We also saw the first Queen lapidarius of 2025 in our Cardiff garden today - such a relief!

Doe could be found deep in the woodland, far away from the hustle and bustle, surrounded by quiet and magical moments.
This was her sanctuary, a place she could retreat to whenever needed.
Sheβd spend her days deep in thought, away from it all, filled with peace and enchantment.

Itβs official, 2024 was the worst year for bumblebees since records beganπ¨
The latest findings from #BeeWalk, our national bumblebee monitoring scheme, have revealed bumblebee numbers declined by almost a quarter (22.5%) across Great Britainπ

27.11.2024 16:51 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 1Did u know? We shouldn't be scared of the colour brown in our outside spaces in winter. Seed heads, spent flowers & dry twigs are warm, dry areas where small souls can overwinter in safety, so leave it in situ until you see the first insects on the wing next season.
