Plowing sidewalks is an absolute necessity in Chicago, but even for our once-a-season snows in PDX. It's unconscionable that we force people with mobility challenges be housebound for weeks.

Most people want whatever they think will be better for them. The rich think he'll be better for their bank accounts, the people that are struggling think he might protect them from economic threats, whether immigrants or China. But mostly, they like feeling like they're backing a winning horse.

Noticing that something is happening is very different than liking it. I happen to be the child of immigrants and have a trans child so maybe guess again.

No one needs a permission structure to check out, if anything Trump has people more highly engaged than ever. (See voter participation in the 90s and before). They don't want what the Dems are selling, which is the status quo.

Turns out the threat of fascism is pretty good for NYT revenues. And before you say, "But Biden!" You know you weren't reading the paper for him...

I'm going to respectfully disagree. I think the NYT knows damn well that Trump is extra great for their biz model. Here are their revenues over the past 15 years to prove.

I think you may be o restating the degree to which most people actually identify as left or right. The people who stay home aren't generally the most engaged politically. They're people who feel a deep cynicism that centrist Dems do nothing to counteract.

Gotta love life with a sensitive 4-year old who starts crying after hearing the words to Frosty the Snowman because our eponymous hero is about to melt. #parenting #ThisBodesWell

Being on the P:NW board this past year has been one of the most impactful organizing experiences I've had in a long time! Let me know if you're interested in joining the effort to help make Portland a place where everyone has a place to call home.

Just going to put this right here, Portland. Amazing! @pnwpolicyangel.bsky.social

Yeah, I was confused by the number on the Y-axis but these are average monthly numbers.

This is for single unit homes, no? The number of units is overall going down in CA as the share of MF housing goes up.

America’s literacy crisis isn’t what you think This is what happens when kids don’t read for pleasure anymore.

This article made me think of the best bit of parenting advice that I can give: whatever you want your kid to value, make it the prize. You're less likely to raise a kid that reads for pleasure when the prize for good behavior is always screen-time. www.vox.com/culture/3862...

It's almost like the NYT knows people will hate-read her bile and thinks trans kids lives are worth the clicks. Sigh. I need to cancel.

2nd Avenue Records forced to leave building after 42 years, another blow to downtown Portland, city’s music history The record store will have to relocate or close after the owner of the Governor Building told businesses they had to move.

This is really unfortunate news. I feel so bad for the owners of a true landmark in downtown PDX. I visited 2nd Ave. on my first visit to the city back in 1994 and it always feels reassuring to step through their doors. I hope they can find a new location soon.

Barcelona has metro, trams, buses, bike-lanes, and walkable (& sit-able) streets. They also have these electric β€œtrackless trams,” which are smooth-riding long buses that look like trams (which are considered cooler so it might help with ridership). I admit, they ARE very cool. Thoughts? #Barcelona

Spent ten days there and didn't wait more than 3 minutes for the train or bus. I have never been more jealous.

If you're a person currently agitating for Dems to care less about people made vulnerable by Trump because you think it will magically get you more votes next time, please fuck right off.
