6/ At a time when news media continues to shrink, Americaβs national parks are seeing record-breaking crowds. These pristine and imperiled places deserve a news organization that can keep up.
Weβre here to help. Join us. Apply here: sfgate.com/careers
5/ What was an 21-person outfit in 2019 will have almost tripled in 2025 β this year, we have 60 journalists in 23 different cities and four different states, planting our journalism flag in a massive geographic footprint that, frankly, needs it.
22.09.2025 21:49 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 04/ Weβve expanded to cover the entire state over the past six years, added a SoCal bureau and hired a host of talented journalists based in Calif. news deserts hurting for more good journalism (plus had ZERO LAYOFFS during that entire span).
More on that: www.sfgate.com/news/article...
3/ That kind of thoughtful expansion is at the core of what weβre trying to do here. Since separating from
the @sfchronicle.com in 2019, SFGATE has become the largest news site on the entire West Coast, passing the LA Times in July 2024 despite having 1/5th the number of journalists on staff.
2/ They'll not only tackle ambitious journalism about the parks, but they'll actually be based in the communities most tied to the ones they cover β we're not going to hire a CA journalist to cover Zion National Park.
We're going to hire someone in Utah.
1/ The new National Parks Contributing Editor covering the Southwest needs to have a deep understanding of the region's most loved parks and the ability to tell stories that matter to both people who live there and people who visit.

20.09.2025 02:26 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh hey! Need a bit of GOOD news this Friday?
Well, we've got that. @sfgate.com launched a SoCal Bureau last year and hired 5 journalists to cover LA. It's been so successful under the steady hand of @farleyelliott.bsky.social that it now has its own newsletter:
www.sfgate.com/la/article/s...
