thank you so much for your crucial work, Craig
03.08.2025 19:35 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Profoundly grateful that my book continues to resonate with those in the trenches of this fight. @cafreema.bsky.social's reflections are powerful:
"Our society and government must make housing available to ALL. We must destroy housing as a commodity and recognize it as the human right it is."
Excellent reporting from @kdailey.bsky.social.
Trump is "opening the floodgates to predatory conduct in the housing market," says the National Fair Housing Alliance. "We are witnessing a war on fair housing and fair lending as the nation is in the throes of a fair and affordable housing crisis."
A Minnesota landlord tried to evict a family because their autistic son was said to be making "too much noise." Legal aid intervened, citing disability discrimination, and kept them housed.
Now Trump's HUD is slashing the grants that made this defense possible, part of its assault on fair housing.
I wrote for The New Yorker about Gaza’s mental health crisis, and spoke with therapists and psychologists still trying to help others through relentless trauma, while they themselves are displaced, grieving, and surviving day by day. www.newyorker.com/news/the-led...

I’m an American citizen, my child’s father is not. If I did not have a passport on hand to prove my citizenship, this policy would separate my child from me at birth. How does this not terrify folks?

"Every three months, statistics on results of the state plan are published. The statistics are unfailingly optimistic. Each time they raise questions ... about the relationship of statistics to reality."

01.08.2025 17:41 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0A few people have rightly noted that "noncitizen baby" isn't a current legal category. But this piece warns that if Trump's plan goes through, such a category would be created: A "new underclass of noncitizen babies," writes @mjsdc.bsky.social, could "be subject to arrest from the moment of birth."
01.08.2025 15:03 — 👍 61 🔁 21 💬 0 📌 0The phrase is used in the article, but I should have noted this: "There is no indication that the government will provide a grace period before snatching up and imprisoning this new underclass of noncitizen babies."
01.08.2025 14:15 — 👍 16 🔁 3 💬 1 📌 0America is now a place where the term "neonatal arrests" is entering the lexicon.
Under Trump's plan, noncitizen babies could be detained at birth. "The administration has already facilitated such neonatal arrests by repealing a 2011 rule that prohibited ICE enforcement in and around hospitals."
wow -- thank you so much for reading, and for your incredibly generous words
