A few people have rightly noted that "noncitizen baby" isn't a current legal category. But this piece warns that if Trump's plan goes through, such a category would be created: A "new underclass of noncitizen babies," writes @mjsdc.bsky.social‬, could "be subject to arrest from the moment of birth."

The phrase is used in the article, but I should have noted this: "There is no indication that the government will provide a grace period before snatching up and imprisoning this new underclass of noncitizen babies."

Trump Just Released His Plan to Revoke Birthright Citizenship. It’s Worse Than Imagined. Try as it might, the government cannot cover up the horrors with bureaucratic legalese.

America is now a place where the term "neonatal arrests" is entering the lexicon.

Under Trump's plan, noncitizen babies could be detained at birth. "The administration has already facilitated such neonatal arrests by repealing a 2011 rule that prohibited ICE enforcement in and around hospitals."
