I love Final Fantasy. I am excited for the set.

But I want Standard gameplay to be viable at the LGS level. I want new cards to be accessible to the next generation of spell slingers.

Standard legal sets at specialty collector prices is not good for the game.

I’ve already opted to just play nothing but commander for the months that the UB sets are out. Hopefully this doesn’t become regular for all sets or I’ll just straight up stop playing.

We did get one dragon! It was stormscale scion. No but seriously I agree, I just want to know what’s in Tarkir. I started in OTJ and have never been but from what I have seen it looks like an awesome plane and just want to see what the stuff is going to be ;-; .

5/ This change will not only affecting me or even just Australians. This will hit globally and in some places it will be more noticeable than others. I was already skeptical about UBs in Standard but this just makes me against the idea entirely. If things don’t change I may stop playing entirely tbh

4/ And in case people see this and think I’m mad for being “priced out” or something. I’m really not, I just can’t justify spending $110 a week for sets we don’t really care for. The part I’m actually mad about is not being able to see the amazing friends I’ve made at my lgs.

3/ All of this while neither of us really caring about this set or the spiderman UB (we’re excited for Avatar but will probably still opt out of events). Sets that we didn’t even want to see in standard and were really enjoying the original settings from last year (mainly BLB and DSK).

2/ This means that if me and my partner still want to play Draft and Standard/Pioneer, it’ll go from $90 aud per week (previously $15 each for standard/pioneer and $30 each for draft) to $110 (estimated $20 each for standard/pioneer and $35 each for draft).

1/ I think we as a community should talk about this. Yes it’s only a $1.50 usd difference but in Australia that makes the price of a pack go from $8.65 aud to $11 aud. That’ll probably hike entry fees by $5 aud per person.

@pleasantkenobi.bsky.social Not sure if you saw already, but the MSRPs for Final Fantasy UB have come out and the price hikes seem official. As an Australian I’ll be paying $10-11 AUD per pack :/. Guess I’m abandoning standard and draft and becoming a commander only player until Edge of Eternities.

The box only says “contains surge foils” while the mh3 ones said it contained “2 profile showcase commanders”. Hopefully they decide to change it. I’d definitely pick one up if they did.

It’s really upsetting to me that the collector precons don’t come with showcase commanders. They literally did it for mh3, there’s no excuse other than wanting to up the sales of collector packs for the set
