Note to self (and I expect I’ll need this reminder going forward):

right now, the words don’t have to be good, they just have to exist. “Good” comes later.

Trying something new for this one, crawling out on a limb, flying by the seat of my — well, you know. Let’s see what shakes out.

I’m pretty inured to guts & gore, but the early Jackson stuff (& especially DEAD ALIVE & especially especially this scene) are still just… absolutely fucking revolting to me, he truly was a freak way back when

Steve Earle famously once said, “Townes Van Zandt's the best songwriter in the world, and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.”

That's how I feel when I read a John Langan story. There's just no one better.

Not to toot my own horn, but a friend reached out this past weekend & told me reading this story filled him with the same kind of dread he felt watching the, uh, "home movies" in SINISTER...

Just, you know, something to think about.

Daughter of the Nile — Quad Cinema Established in 1972, Quad Cinema is New York's original multi-screen cinema.

Not sure if I have any NYC film buds on here, but a word to the wise:

Hou Hsiao-hsien's rarely screened DAUGHTER OF THE NILE is playing at the Quad on Wednesday 8/13, programmed by your friends at the Cohen Film Collection (Specifically, me. I am your friend)

Can’t really speak to the first two movies, and remember liking Savini’s remake OK, but EVIL DEAD fully, truly changed my life that night, without hyperbole. I’m sure we ate some good pizza & drank too much pop beyond that, so yep, a pretty good time!

Please reply to this post with one horror movie (preferably on vhs) that you remember renting from a video rental store. Thank you.

For my 13th birthday sleepover, the first mini horror marathon I ever programmed (also screened: GHOULIES II, THE EVIL DEAD, and NOTLD ‘90).

Don’t remember a single thing about it!

10 years ago we went into the cold to make a movie about grief, ghosts and bad bets with unspeakable evil.

What @tedgeoghegan.bsky.social, Karim Hussain, @barbaracrampton.bsky.social, Andrew Sensenig, Larry Fessenden, Lisa Marie & Monte Markham put on screen exceeded its budget & all expectations.

Went for a walk earlier without realizing how gnarly it is out there & almost did a puke! Definitely consider how much you actually need to be outside today, Chicago, and be safe if you're attending The Festival

I'm in Chicago and I will not be stepping outside without a mask today. I have wound up feeling quite ill due to lower AQIs than this.

This demonstrates such a willful misunderstanding of what a director does by choosing their frame that it makes me wonder if Mankiewicz even likes movies.

Super gross.

Hear, hear! (I actually didn't think the room was too too hot & it certainly beat swimming through the humidity outside. My walk to & from the Metra was... damp)
