The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is part of the ETH Domain. Approximately 600 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards. The Research Unit Biodiversity and Conservation Biology studies the diversity of life, from genetic diversity to species and habitat diversity, as well as their interactions. Starting May 1, 2025, or by agreement the research group Ecological Genetics offers a four-month position for a Technical assistant in soil ecology 80-100% (f/m/d) You will participate in a research project on soil biodiversity in forest sites of the Swiss National Forest Inventory. You will carry out laboratory work (measurements of abiotic soil properties) and organize and archive soil samples. You will collect, document and manage data and metadata of soil chemical and soil biological parameters and help with processing of amplicon sequencing data. You have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in biology, environmental, natural or soil sciences with a focus on microbiology and/or ecology. You have experience with general biological and biogeochemical laboratory procedures. You are comfortable with curating and managing datasets and samples. Experience with bioinformatic analysis of next-generation sequencing data is a plus. You have good communication and organisational skills and are fluent in German and English, which will help you to communicate in an international team of scientists and technicians. Working independently, flexibly and accurately is a strength, as is working in a team.
