Mr. President Trump, I — and the people of my homeland — are not a threat to the United States. I was born in a country with over ten thousand years of recorded history. My nation, and its people, have never taken part in any terrorist attack against the United States. Our language isn’t even Arabic. In fact, my people have long opposed the very regimes and groups you seem to tolerate or embrace. Today, you signed an executive order banning the entry of Persians to the United States. Persians are among the most successful immigrant communities in American history. My family pays taxes in the U.S. They are highly educated. And I, personally, love America — deeply enough to sacrifice my life for it if needed. And yet, you have dared to accuse people like me — people who were born in a peaceful, ancient land — of being dangerous. How dare you? On September 11, 2001, 19 of the 21 hijackers who slaughtered innocent Americans were Saudi nationals. Others were from Egypt. Not one was Iranian. So why is Saudi Arabia not on your ban list? Has Saudi money blinded you? This executive order does not bring security. It institutionalizes injustice. As a political science writer focused on the United States — someone who understands the U.S. Constitution far more deeply than many politicians — I have always believed in American values: liberty, law, and merit. I still do. But today, I must ask you: Is this the new face of American justice? What are you doing to the soul of America? How can you play with the lives of thousands of families like mine?

You signed it again, Mr. President Trump another ban, another betrayal. This isn’t about safety. It’s about punishing families, not stopping threats. I wrote this open letter as someone who loves this country deeply, maybe more than you do. I hope you’ll read it and if it resonates, share it.
