i2B Arctic Ocean Expedition 2025 Collecting new geological archives that will reveal past Arctic climate secrets

After 35 unforgettable days at sea, the i2B expedition has come to an end. The team retrieved nearly 250 meters of sediment cores from key sites across the #Arctic Ocean — records that will help unravel the story of past warm climates. 🔗 Read chief scientist Jochen Knies’ reflection: arcg.is/0favaf0

i2B Arctic Ocean Expedition 2025 Collecting new geological archives that will reveal past Arctic climate secrets

First week update:
We have been sailing day and night, moving east to west not far from the northern part of Svalbard. A few days ago, we reached the Yermak Plateau, where we carried out several measurements and collected sediment cores.

Removing ENSO’s influence from global SST variability, with insights into the record-setting marine heatwaves of 2023-2024 Abstract The El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is a dominant driver of seasonal-interannual climate variability and has been linked to record-setting extremes such as marine heatwaves (MHWs). Howeve...

Paper alert! 🚨

Ever wondered how ENSO contributes to Marine Heat Waves #MHVs? In the study conducted in collaboration with PhD candidate Alessandro Gagliardi (@alexgag11.bsky.social), the authors isolated the effect of ENSO in driving SST variability, including MHV extremes!
