Today quantum fringe comes to an end! 6 events over 2 months. From fundamental quantum theory to cryptography it was a blast.

Volunteering at the NQCC quantum hackathon today! Best of luck to the teams! So far I have seen some incredible work on real quantum devices! Glad to see some old acquaintances and meet some new one :)

NQCC is the UK’s National Quantum Computing Center. They run a yearly flagship hackathon 🇬🇧

Has no-one ever made a Stim backend for Qiskit, to make stabilizer simulation faster. It seems like such an easy win for making a well-used tool!

Didn’t expect an anti-category theory talk 🤣

The city of St Andrews was lovely to visit. Sunny beaches and many golfers

We had a few great talks presented by researchers from across the industrial and academic quantum landscape, including startups and larger companies, who shared their career journeys. It was a very enlightening glimpse into real careers and perspectives in research.

The best slide of the day by far was the unexpected and very welcome reference to BBC’s Sherlock.

It’s was cool to see how quantum is revolutionising sensing imaging by improving image quality as well as both industrial and academic research on present and future quantum networks.

Had a great start to the QuantumARC summer school today. From black holes simulations to continuous variable quantum info it was a pleasure to chat and learn alongside with a good chunk of the current Scottish quantum info PhD base.

Sunny summer reading, powered by beach breaks in Spain, with a recommendation that’s come up again and again from every PhD working on tensor networks I have come across “Hand-Waving and Interpretive Dance: An Intro to Tensor Networks”.
Unanimously suggested & much enjoyed.

Hahaha I think they were mostly wondering why I kept pulling documents out of my bag and reading them at a turtle pace 😂

If you had to read only one book this summer I would highly recommend: The Star maker ~ O. Stapledon. Few books are written so beautifully, contain such depth, spark such imagination, & in so many ways offer so much to the reader. A short walk through the history of galaxies & meaning of existence.
