I have a few friends who I asked to let me know when I did get too loud and that also helped. Brains are very dumb but I hope it helps

I think its a good way to get into the habit of it, I struggled for years basically yelling all the time because workplaces often demanded I yell or talk loudly to be heard over machinery. Its taken a good few years to quieten down and I still have moments where I catch myself being too loud.

Nah it's not stupid, rejection is a harsh and bad emotion and were generally wired to avoid repeat experiences like that. Yeah our brains can be bit dumb but you aren't, most of it comes off valid fears and past experiences and yeah it sucks but that's also psychology for you.

Nowadays I just put my main interests front and center and if you like any of them then yeah let's chat, although I do understand all too well the fear of DMing or starting first and kicking the thought of 'Am I just annoying someone during their day' or the many unopened DMs one can rack up

I feel ya there, FT work often leaves me with little energy or time to devote to anything other personal stuff, then a year goes by before I even blink and you kinda wonder if its worthwhile till you do get a chance to get out and socialize.

It can be hard to jump in after being out of the loop,
