Open letter to the Slovak Government β€” EWI – European Whistleblowing Institute We, the undersigned organisations, are writing to you to express our grave concern about the renewed effort to severely limit whistleblower protections in Slovakia in the form of a new bill and the fa...

Together with 28 organisations working on whistleblower protection worldwide, we have sent an open letter to the Slovak government and the parliament to withdraw the bill. Read it here: www.ewi.legal/blog/1wier2o...

Transparency International and TI Slovakia are calling on Slovakian MPs not to support it. Protecting whistleblowers is protecting the rule of law. What is at stake next week is the integrity of Slovakia's democracy.

Our colleagues in Slovakia, along with other civil society groups, are warning that this move is not in the country’s national interest, and would not only erode institutional independence but could also and damage Slovakia's standing within the European Union.

Whistleblowers play a crucial role in safeguarding the public good by exposing wrongdoing, corruption and malpractice. For example, revealing fraudulent public spending can trigger action to improve oversight, so that public funds are used for services that benefit society.

27.11.2025 09:45 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Thanks to these efforts, public trust in authorities and institutions has grown, and citizens' willingness to report wrongdoing to the WPO has been steadily increasing. This progress is now in danger of being lost.

27.11.2025 09:45 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

These proposals contradict the EU Whistleblower Directive, and jeopardise Slovakia's compliance with EU law.

For years, Slovakia has been a model in Europe for its rules to safeguard those who speak up against corruption.

27.11.2025 09:45 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It would also introduce retroactive changes that would undermine legal certainty for 100+ individuals who are already under protection, potentially putting them at risk of retaliation for calling out wrongdoing.

🚨 The Slovakian Parliament just approved fast-tracking a bill that could slash key rules to protect whistleblowers. ⬇️

The bill, which will be voted on next week, would dismantle its Office for the Protection of Whistleblowers (WPO) in order to replace it with a new and weaker one.

How Transparency International fought corruption in 2024 - News Last year, we led the global anti-corruption movement to make important progress towards a world that is free of corruption.

Last year, after our intervention, the UN dropped a planned US$30,000 fee for climate-related complaints. This win meant that communities facing the worst of the climate crisis could raise their voices without financial obstacles. #COP30

#COP30 πŸ“£ Our analysis shows that most companies at recent COPs fail to back science-based policy, with some even lobbying against it.
Business participation at climate talks needs real oversight to prevent it from turning into an industry trade fair. ⬇️ www.transparency.org/en/news/clim...

Climate Summit or Industry Trade Fair? - News Safeguarding the integrity of UN climate talks requires stronger oversight of business participation.

πŸ”΄ 88% of the analysed companies that attended the previous two @UNFCCC COPs have not expressed clear support for the Paris Agreement since 2024.

We need to remind them that COP is not an industry fair, but a serious space for climate talks. Read more: www.transparency.org/en/news/clim...

#COP30 ➑️ Over the last years, an increasing number of fossil fuel lobbyists have been attending the conference, resulting in weak fossil fuel related decisions.

🚨 Failing to address conflicts of interest and undue influence in climate will put millions of lives at risk.

New report. Digital disclosure of political finance in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Transparency International.

🚨 Our new report shows that most governments don’t publish political finance data online.

That means citizens are left in the dark about where campaign money comes from and how it’s spent.

A Special Law Will Undermine Not Only the General Staff Building but the Legal System as Well

A new special law in #Serbia is being rushed through Parliament, skipping public debate and corruption checks.

Our colleagues at Transparency Serbia alert that the law would mean rewriting the rules to protect hidden interests.

Corruption weakens our capacity to address climate change. In the Philippines, public sector corruption remains high, with a score of only 33/100 on the #CPI2024. People in the Philippines are also extremely vulnerable to the climate crisis, with floods frequently causing fatalities.
