few things annoy me as much as when artists use their professional accounts to make fun of other people’s art styles. there’s basically no benefit to posting about it. all it does is scream, “i have no self-awareness and can’t recognize that my own art is just as easy to reduce as anyone else’s.”

all that to say, i’m always happy to chat with artists who are grieving over their careers, whether it’s due to loss of income or loss of others’ interest in their art. i’m not trying to spread toxic positivity, i just like to give artists space to air out their frustrations and find a way forward.

i can draw fanart for a series that, at best, has been played by ~160 people on backloggd. i can make tampon jokes in my drawings. i can indulge in black & white artwork even though it won’t stand out in anyone’s feed. i always win.

knowing i’ll never gain a following for my art is so freeing. i can draw whatever i want. if i gain any large amount of followers at this point, then that would be a fluke, and i’d have to delete all my social media forever.
