A photo of what looks a lot like a mottled brownish, olive green, and white snake hanging out in the vegetation, with leaves in the background. But a closer look reveals that it's actually a caterpillar with markings that mimic a snake's face and eyes. The caterpillar has twisted its body so that its head is upside down, revealing false eyes on the underside. It has even flared its thorax to create the illusion of a snake's triangular, tapered head.

🐙🌿🐍🐛 Nope, it's not a snake - it's the caterpillar of a sphinx moth (Hemeroplanes sp.)., found by our guides in Corcovado Natl. Park., Costa Rica. Normally the caterpillars blend with the vegetation, but if disturbed they twist their head upside down to reveal a "snake," and even wave around to--
