It'll be a bit quiet from me whilst on maternity leave. Merry Christmas to all, and a peaceful New year <3

Rage stage! Great term. Funnily enough I start with the small stuff to make me feel like I can do it... but I should definitely try to 'eat the frog' and get to the main problems...

It's always so fascinating to hear other people's approaches. I have to draft the letter first, as a kind of working to-do list. That drives me to get on and edit, but... this time round trying to think straight whilst literally waiting for contractions is a bit ridiculous, haha!

What's the fastest you've ever turned around a (major) paper revision? And what's your strategy- letter first, then edits? Something else?

Sharing some love from our ETHOS research centre's winterval celebrations last night.

Community is the *best* thing about academia, working alongside smart, passionate people at all stages of their career. I feel very lucky!

If it takes as long to get to a full professor as it took me to get to from associate prof to reader, then yes!

Thank you! I need to think how to translate what a Reader is into the normal world. Baby professor? Professor-In-Waiting?

Hahaha. My mum said "You've been doing that since you were four".

I was promoted to Reader! A rather odd academic job title that is dying out... but recognises the strength of my research standing. Hurrah!

This reflects the challenges we see on the ground for women staff, as well as the broader political and cultural backslide on gender equity

Today I attended a lecture online and listened, thought, and thought some more. Just for intellectual growth. Kind of what I thought academia would be like!

21.11.2024 20:09 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes I can see when it would be helpful in that case. I guess one meta-worry I have is that journals will come to *expect* ever-larger datasets as a result of growing AI use, without the reflection of what is lost, or unique, about qualitative, smaller studies.

At the risk of sounding like a luddite, AI involvement in most of qual research is worrying. We lose understanding, depth & human connection with the research at every stage. Urgh.

20.11.2024 12:56 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

#AI #chatbots conducting #interviews is wrong on so many levels:
- Ethically (duty of care to our participants; huge questions about privacy & protection of data)
- Methodologically (distance between us & data means we risk losing the depth & rigour that qualitative methods provide)
And more...

Re-posting to share with new followers the kind of research I've been working on in recent years:

#Misogyny in #Organizations.

Inspired by the fabulous philosophical work of @katemanne.bsky.social & applied to the world of work.
