UPDATE—Mahmoud's attorney says they do NOT know where he is.
They were first told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, NJ. But when his 8-month-pregnant wife tried to visit him, she was told he's not there.
They've received reports he may be sent as far away as Louisiana.

Update: DHS — whose officers conducted this detention — did not answer questions. It instead directed us to the White House.

UPDATE—I asked Columbia specifically if they knew in advance of any DHS or ICE activity on or near campus, or whether they shared any info with authorities about the detained individual or any other Columbia affiliates.

They *did not* answer those questions, instead just referred to this statement:

BREAKING: DHS Detains Palestinian Student from Columbia Encampment, Says Advocates Agents told him his student visa was revoked. But he had a green card. Agents then said that was revoked too.

NEWS: Last night, the Department of Homeland Security detained a Palestinian who helped lead the Columbia encampment.

Agents told him his visa was revoked. He said he had a green card. They were confused—then said that was revoked too.

His attorney demanded a warrant. Agents hung up instead.
