Religion and Slave Revolts in the Roman Mediterranean is under contract with the @uwiscpress.bsky.social!

Looking forward to sharing thoughts on the roles of religious cultures in catalyzing & suppressing slave revolts + how Roman writers selectively characterized the religiosity of the enslaved.

I'm emerging from my social media hiatus to say that I think there's a reference to Hannibal crossing the Alps in the Mandalorian and Grogu trailer

It's been 8 years in the making, but the metapoetic dictionary I contributed to is finally out! I wrote two entries (in English): one on bees/honey in Latin literature and one on nymphs in Greek and Latin literature. If you'd like PDFs of my entries, I'd be happy to share them!

They’re not *that* close, but I really love my place in Portland and there are some Colby profs who live in Portland where we can carpool. So it won’t be too bad.

The edited volume on the sublime that I contributed to is out! My chapter examines the Isthmus of Corinth, the Nero's plan to build a canal through it, and the cosmic implications of such a project. I'm happy to share a pre-proof draft with anyone who is interested!

A poster for a movie festival sponsored by the Bowdoin Classics Department and Film society.

The poster lists the movies and the dates:
Jason and the Argonauts (1963) - 2/22
Clash of the Titans (1981) - 2/29
Clash of the Titans (2010) - 4/11
Ercole al Centro Della Terra - 4/18
Hercules (2014) - 4/25
All films are on a Thursday and they all start at 4:30 pm

Poster has the tagline: "Come for the camp! Stay for the analysis!"

The bottom of the poster displays images of Maggie Smith, Dwayne Johnson, and Christopher Lee.

There's a note next to the image of Christopher Lee to indicate the figure is, in fact, Christopher Lee.

I'm excited to announce that I'll be presenting at the 2024 PCA National Conference this March on a panel that examines monsters in popular culture. My paper explores the ways in which Godzilla has become a symbol of empowerment for marginalized groups.
