Two pigeons on a London street, pecking at crumbs.

Pigeon 1:
"I'm sorry you missed out on the Booker prize. I thought your novel was wonderful."

Pigeon 2:
"It’s a stitch up! They always give it to a human!"

Pigeon 1:
"It’s nice they considered it."

Pigeon 2:
"Nobody cares about the longlist, Janet!"

Pigeon 2 again:
"Zadie Smith had a bestselling novel and an armload of literary prizes before she was 25*."

Pigeon 1:
"You’ve got to stop comparing yourself to Zadie Smith"

Pigeon 2:
"Why?"

Pigeon 1:
"We’ve all got to find our own path through the world. Plus, it’s much harder to type with claws."

pigeon 2:
"That’s true."

They both go back to pecking.

Pigeon 2:
"I’m glad you liked my book."

*Pigeon 2 is 3 years, 11 months and 22 days old, the equivalent of 42 in human years.

guy said, “Do you like Marx?”

I said, “I haven’t met him.”

Guy said, “No, no, he’s dead.”

“Wow, what happened?”

“No, no, he died long ago.”

I thought the guy Marx had just died. So then, “Why are you asking me if he died long ago?”

“No, he wrote a lot. He wrote that poor people should not be poor.”

I said, “Sounds amazing.”

I’m giving you a sense of how naïve I was. After they left, I went to the library to look for Marx. So that was my introduction to Karl Marx.

BS: The FBI.

MM: The FBI. Then, of course, I took a class on Marx. Couldn’t just get Marx out of the library. But,

Panel 3
Caption: Soon.
Image: they are now outside sheltering under an unbrella in torrential rain. "Shall we go home?" says the reader. "Yes please. I'm getting soggy." says the book.

Title: The leaves

 Image 1:
 Two leaves hang from branches.
"Would you like to hear my new poem?" Says one
"Is it another one about the inevitability of death?" replies a smaller leaf.

Image 2:
"It's autumn! What else am i going to write about?" says the poet leaf.
"Well, we've all turned this lovely reddish colour." says the small leaf.

Image 3:
"Actually, that could make a very nice poem. Thanks!" says the poet.

 Image 4.
The small leaf begins to reply but is blown away by a gust of wind.

 Image 5:
Later. The solitary poet leaf recites a poem:
"The year dies. I cling hopelessly. In the end all things fall."

Night time. Three figures walk up a set of stairs. They are in fact Penrose stairs, an impossible object which one can walk up endlessly.
Low on the side of the stairs is a window. Another figure leans out and shouts up at the walkers:
“Guys! I'm sure it's not easy being trapped in an endless paradox representing the limited nature of human perception, but some of us are trying to sleep down here!”

Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change. Air pollution fell substantially as the city restricted car traffic and made way for parks and bike lanes.

“Over the past 20 years, Paris has undergone a major physical transformation, trading automotive arteries for bike lanes, adding green spaces and eliminating 50,000 parking spaces.

Part of the payoff has been invisible — in the air itself.”

Leadership, strategy, real action, common sense. #Paris
