I think this is a drum we need to bang on loudly and continuously. Many people my age (millennials) and younger have just grown up in a world where this has been presented as common knowledge rather than a historically fluke election.

The whole GOP shutdown strategy is hoping that sheer force of propaganda can convince the public that things getting worse does not reflect badly on the people in charge of the government, and that hurting America more will get Democrats to acquiesce to the Trump admin hurting America in other ways.

My pet theory is that the idea of the filibuster as sacred comes from internalizing all the wrong things from Me Smith Goes to Washington

the aim of the american constitutional structure is twofold: to prevent major change without consensus and to have a workable system of self-government. supermajority rules for ordinary business might promote consensus (i think this is wrong btw) but they make government unworkable!

A non-negotiable for Democrats in the 2028 primaries is that they must promise to expand and reform the court. The Supreme Court has lost all legitimacy to rule and it needs to be completely overhauled. Nothing less would be an abject failure and acquiescence to Republican ratfucking of the court.

People keep trying to attribute Mamdani's victory to *how* he said what he said. They're downplaying the importance of *what* he was saying.

Mamdani aligns more closely to Dem voters than Dem leadership does.

Governance is always a struggle but what NYC and Mamdani face will be an incredibly steep hill with a lot of resistance. It is going to be vitally important to communicate the obstacles and the challenges in order to maintain support and momentum.

A coalition that ranges from democratic socialists to neoconservatives, including a lot of energized liberals in between, is large and formidable.

A big pro-democracy tent. A united front. Any internal disagreements can be hashed out once the authoritarian emergency is over.

This really can work.

Cuomo was drummed out of office 4 years ago for sexual harassment. He then lost the mayoral Dem primary. He then employed rank gutter racism to win as an independent -- winning Trump's endorsement! -- and that didn't work either. Few modern politicians so richly deserve obscurity and exile.
