Re: the theologically “conservative” Lutheran churches (LCMS, WELS, and likely some smaller groups), many share that sentiment and feel a tragic loss of disconnection from historical roots. Many might wish to visit a church where family were baptized, but can’t abide the narrow othering.

How, exactly, is being a narrow minded conservative in conflict with WELS membership? FTR, my family had LCMS roots and I’d ask the same of most members in that case as well?
