I can see how that framing is too strong. I guess what I was trying to say (after getting a night of sleep) is that there are still a surprising number of people that don't believe that the Safety-II approach is a thing and that makes some interesting things happen in industry.

That's precisely why I brought it up. I had a feeling that understanding the split in the field might help you hone in on what you're looking for. :)

Probably Hollnagel, E. (2014). Safety-I and Safety-II: The past and future of safety management. There are a number of far quicker reads out there that'll also get you where you gotta go, but most will eventually cite this or something else from Hollnagel.

I don't think I've seen it said in responses yet, but you're quickly going to run into discussions of Safety-I vs Safety-II, which divides the field. My guess, based on what you've said elsewhere is you're most interested in people who still hold a Safety-I mindset and how they impact system design

He's good at what he specializes in which is why I use him, which is detangling complex diagnoses. So, he's good for the main thing I need him for, which is figuring out which specialists I need to go to for what. But, outside of that, he's been hit or miss. I've only had him for a year though.

You know, a company with an incident analysis program is a little bit like the mule with a spinning wheel. No one knows how he got it, and danged if he knows how to use it.

Adding onto this, once a place is willing to scrap the status quo, there have been good resources that interested parties could find like the Etsy Debriefing Guide and Howie.

Exposure to the communities that talked about those (eg devopsdays) is what gets/got people to improve those practices.

Another legal argument that we havent seen played out, and that I've heard has been used internally at some of these companies is that it's the user and not the company who is legally responsible for whether or not the produced works violate copyright/licenses.

Maybe! A big difference we see here is the feedback loops between the agent and an engineer are significantly quicker than you'd have with a contractor and with none of the intraorganizational issues. I think that opens things up to shifts in that kind of paradigm.

That's fair! But, to me, the point in time an LLM runs at still makes it feel like more of the abstraction level of getting code from a contractor and needing to modify or work through it with them and less like the code created by a compiler.

I think its valuable to talk about how the transition to abstractions like compilers made people uncomfortable and were net positive.

But, I also dont think the comparison is 1:1 for type of abstraction.
