Presentation matters, and people who take good ideas and communicate them to more people are making a valuable contribution. If those people don't credit their sources, of course that's plagiarism, but there are folks out there who think popularizers aren't adding anything, and they are dead wrong.

I've definitely been taking it as an indicator of "whoever wrote this really did not want to think carefully about it" for many years, so this feels like a natural extension of that.
