If a steward of any cultural institution needs outside pressure to do right things, they are wholly unqualified to be stewards. Stewardship fundamentally requires moral character, which inherently demands doing the right thing even when no one is looking, let alone demanding it.

A lot of the laws are actually already in place; they just need to be properly enforced, especially when schools purposely and recklessly place children's identities into the cybersphere in order to provision them with online accounts on platforms known to be filled with truly harmful content.

Ironically, one of the greatest true threats to children's online safety comes from the very institutions created to prepare our children for adulthood: schools. And the best way to protect children remains the very persons schools have been actively undermining for years on this issue: parents.
