Today marks one year since Don Shoup died. I put on a jacket I didn’t realize I wore last at our memorial lunch, pockets stuffed with Kleenex.

First bike commute back on this route in awhile. The new paint in WeHo isn't as bright as it should be, but at this point, the paint in Beverly Hills is so faded that it's nearly a similar visibility as WeHo. I do think that in WeHo they moved the painted line and widened the lane a little bit

I've bike commuted on SMB for 10+ years. The paint in the Beverly Hills part does make a difference; it not an apples to apples because its the ins and outs of street parking in WeHo that make it esp bad but making the lane more visible in a congested corridor is a good thing

Transportation improvements are often matters of life and death. When the City of LA reversed these improvements, they collectively decided it was OK for people to die.

Today is my third week back from maternity leave, so it seems totally rational to launch a huge data collection effort from 750 people, right?

Cried so many times seeing the images of my hometown showing up for their community members today in sub-zero temperatures.

The good is that it’s a good time to focus on doing what you can to raise a little human block out a lot of the rest of the world. And with myself and a partner in the public sector, we each got 4 months off to bond. not nearly enough but glad about what we got in comparison to others

Lastly (for now) the lack of park space in LA sucks. I’m fortunate to have a nearby pocket park. But, where do I end up going if I want to meet up with another parent for a safe stroller walk? The Hollywood forever cemetery. We need more parks with better walk ways in every neighborhood.

The lack of public bathrooms! As a nursing mother (and a human) when you try and be good about hydration, you run the risk of total concern about where / if you can use a restroom while out on a walk or running errands.

Getting in and out of private businesses is a mess. handicapped stickers mean the door is “light” not that there is an automatic opener. It requires doing an exhaustive routine of getting the stroller in the right place, flinging open the door, and pushing in quick.

Trusting no one to yield to pedestrians is terrifying. I never really trusted people driving but the abject fear when you are crossing big and little streets with a stroller or baby carrier is enraging. It brings out my longtime bike commuter shouting (not great!)

The combination of huge areas missing curb cuts and very few street trees and shade makes what should be easy walk trips incredibly unpleasant and hard. I’m often having to decide between a set of terrible route options.

First and foremost, these accessibility issues affect the disability community every day for their entire lives. What I’m experiencing will largely be temporary and as an able bodied person, I can usually overcome these issues (however unpleasantly)

On the train with a new passenger so little life update and rant. Had a baby in late August and spent the last 3 months exhausted by first person experience how the public and private world completely fails parents and families. there’s so much beyond crappy sidewalks and lack of curb cuts

The branded little vehicles were too much. They were too big, and when they went through the hubs, they created even more congestion. Pedicabs are good, but kind of big branded vehicles just felt out of scale with the event.

Pros felt like a lot more people that aren’t typically at these events and a lot of pedestrians, which is always nice. The spirit of seeing branded costumes was cool and festive

Con absolutely mess of hubs. They were choke points with tons of people in line, making it impossible to get through.

The frustrating thing is when you turn off Gemini on your gmail, it ruins your inbox because you can't see important and unread as a top filter anymore

Big shout out to my fellow transit riders who kindly asked the bus to wait for the light to change so I could safely get to the bus and not sprint against the light! Saved me from waiting 15 more minutes to leave work

In theory, yes, but in actual practice, neither segments have the bus frequencies to support bus lanes that wouldn't just be used as peak hour through lanes

My very millennial take is that I'd appreciate it if restaurants just had a phone number you could call and talk to a human anymore! it's sometimes impossibly hard to ask basic questions

Its understandable that transit can be slower than driving, but it was totally bonkers when my @metrolosangeles.bsky.social operator slowed the bus effectively going 9 mph even though there was light traffic because he was “running hot” the entire route. Why rob riders of their time in this way?

Always thrilled to see bus improvements & bus riders get attention! (More trips on bus than L here in Chi) Great new @chicagocta.bsky.social high frequency bus network but more infrastructure changes needed for speedier service. And if legislators don't act to fund transit, such devastating impacts.
