A Small University Bet Big on Enrolling Athletes. Now It Will Close. As Lourdes University, a private institution in Ohio, expanded sports teams, it did bring new students to campus. But overall enrollment continued to decline.

Lourdes College in Ohio bet that adding more athletic teams would save them from closing.

Now, its closing because athletics costs money.

Our testing center (for students eligible for extra time) now has students sign a slip of paper affirming they do not have any AI-enabled wearables on. Didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when I first got an exam with it attached last semester. 🫠

Americans may not appreciate how unique the US college experience is. In Brazil, you go into a degree in, say, economics or engineering or law or whatever, and you take the courses that the Ministry of Education has deemed that someone needs to take to get that degree. That’s pretty much it.
