New preprint!

Not a headline-grabber, but an important step for my lab group: Demonstrating the good psychometric properties of my probability bias (expectancy bias) measure.

Of course, just because those two authors are successful journalists, it doesn't necessarily follow that their opinions on psychology are any good 😂

But in both these cases, I found myself nodding along in agreement most of the time!

Scholarships: MS students receive 32,500 TL per month, and a two-person dorm. PhD students start on 50,000 TL per month and a private dorm. The monthly stipends increase a little if you do not want to live on campus.

Results of Study 4: When positive mood at Time 1 is controlled, optimism bias at Time 1 significantly predicts positive mood at Time 2, 4 weeks later. Standardised beta equals .24

Just sharing this interesting new paper from Duffy et al. In two studies, the Best Possible Self intervention reduced anxiety scores, by about half a standard deviation.

This is consistent with my recent RCT. Can the BPS be useful for anxious people? Worth following up!

I really liked his discussion of the possibility that some emotion expressions might become universal in the future, simply because of the dominance of basic emotion theory outside the field of emotion science.

I've recently finished A Human History of Emotion by Richard Firth-Godbehere, and it was excellent!

@profrichfg.bsky.social has written an authoritative, accessible book about the history of emotions and emotion concepts, which goes right up to the present day. Highly recommended!

Exciting News from PROJ 201! Robert Booth and his talented student team Hasan Kuşpınar, Kaan Erhan, Kaan Yaldırak, and Ozan Erkocaoğlan have reached an exciting accomplishment! Their PROJ 201 project, 'Increasing Optimism', has been published in a prestigious journal under the title 'The Best Possible Self Task Has Direct Effects on Expectancies and Mood, and an Indirect Effect on Anxiety Symptom Severity." This success highlights how PROJ 201 serves as a valuable platform for undergraduate students and supervisors to collaborate on meaningful academic work that can make a real impact.

My recent paper was, apparently, very much appreciated by Sabanci University's Foundations Development Directorate, who posted about it on Insta 🤓
