Nearly 5 years after schools closed, the nation gets a new report card There's some good news in math, mostly bad news in reading and lots of questions about why students are still struggling.

A couple thoughts on the new NAEP scores:

-they don't tell us much more than we already knew in January from the data we got then (see link)
-reminder that NAEP scores come from students in public, private, and charter schools but will be used primarily to bash public schools

The Awkward Adolescence of a Media Revolution Truth is still alive on social mediaβ€”but it’s not yet easy enough to find.

More Americans than ever get their news from social media. This is dangerousβ€”but also an opportunity, argues Jessica Yellin.

Economics. It's cheaper to build. Companies don't look at the negative effects it might have in the long term.

The Uvalde school massacre could have been prevented The disastrous police response demands further scrutinyβ€”and so does another side of the horrific tragedy.

With the release of new harrowing footage of the tragedy, this statement bears repeating: The Uvalde massacre could have been prevented.

While the disastrous police response deserves scrutiny, so does another side of the horrific tragedy: how the shooter was able to obtain an AR-15.

I am begging y'all to stop calling the militarization of a major city a "distraction".

If *YOU* would rather think about Epstein--- and not about the forced mass displacement of human beings--- then just say that.

I've been in the Grand Valley for just over 30 years. As a biracial woman, I can tell you, it's uncomfortable for BIPOC folks. I have a group of friends I hang out with, and I intentionally avoid certain places.

The 2024 election results for Mesa County were about 60/40 in favor of Trump. I'd say that's pretty far to the right.

I love the outdoor opportunities in Grand Junction, but the politics are awful.

Colorado senator on Schumer: 'It's important for people to know when it's time to go' Colorado Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet stopped short Wednesday of calling on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to step down from leadership, but came pretty darn close.

Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet seems to have found a spine. I hope more Democrats join him and Al Greene.
