This one might connect with people interested in outdoor sports. Each might not seem big, but added up climate change is already costing us far more than clean energy.

After the US admin cancelled the $B Climate + Weather Disaster dataset, @climatecentral.org hired the scientists who ran it and set it back up.
Now the 2025 numbers are in: it's 3rd highest year on record and highest year w/o land-falling hurricanes.

Right now resources are shared as a % of system usage, so Utah has 44% of PAC resources and Oregon is 27% of PAC, WA is 7%, CA is 1%, etc. Utah is the largest % of PAC's system. But, we all share in the resources. That is changing now though with WA/OR exiting coal, but how that works is TBD.
08.01.2026 18:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Marco Rubio's announcement that undermines US energy policy and interests
Whether you like it or not, climate policy is energy policy.
The misguided decision to leave these international organizations means that US interests will not be represented in rooms where international energy decisions are being made. It's undermining US national interests.
This is PACE and PACW balancing authority data.

How about some good news?
In December 2025 wind surpassed coal in PacifiCorp's (Rocky Mountain Power's parent) monthly generation. Thanks to new transmission lines & a 600 MW Wyoming wind facility coming online last year, weβre building momentum for a #CleanEnergy future. #utpol ππ‘
6 January 2026 Joint Statement on Greenland Statement by President Macron of France, Chancellor Merz of Germany, Prime Minister Meloni of Italy, Prime Minister Tusk of Poland, Prime Minister SΓ‘nchez of Spain, Prime Minister Starmer of the United Kingdom and Prime Minister Frederiksen of Denmark on Greenland. Arctic security remains a key priority for Europe and it is critical for international and transatlantic security. NATO has made clear that the Arctic region is a priority and European Allies are stepping up. We and many other Allies have increased our presence, activities and investments, to keep the Arctic safe and to deter adversaries. The Kingdom of Denmark - including Greenland - is part of NATO. Security in the Arctic must therefore be achieved collectively, in conjunction with NATO allies including the United States, by upholding the principles of the UN Charter, including sovereignty, territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders. These are universal principles, and we will not stop defending them. The United States is an essential partner in this endeavour, as a NATO ally and through the defence agreement between the Kingdom of Denmark and the United States of 1951. Greenland belongs to its people. It is for Denmark and Greenland, and them only, to decide on matters concerning Denmark and Greenland.

It won't affect any of the solar we already have. And, the US supply chain is rapidly growing, despite efforts to hobble it. But, yes, I agree it's a risk we should do more to mitigate.

Worth noting, there will never be an illegal war over solar energy. That's what true energy independence looks like.
04.01.2026 06:59 β π 19 π 4 π¬ 2 π 0The big difference between 2002 and 2026 is that we now have viable alternatives to oil for transport.

Instead of whatever this is, we should have a government getting lots of new homes and apartments built, lots of clean energy built, lots of high speed rail and transit and bike lanes built, human rights for everyone, economic & healthcare opportunities for all, & innovation that leads the world.
