I do think articles like these are not helpful, as they misdirect energy to finding a "new cause" of something that I believe is simply part of naturally occurring neurodiversity.

Had either of us received the proper support early in life, our lives and those of our loved ones would have been a lot easier. So I'm very happy that the disorder is diagnosed more often today.

Both of us have been relatively functional in our assigned social roles, and I'm sure that is why we've never had the diagnosis of ASD. Look a little deeper, though, and it becomes obvious to someone who is familiar with the signs.
